Models of snow processes are required as components of the land-surface schemes used to provide lower boundary conditions for
large-scale atmospheric models. Snow models have often been evaluated in comparison with plot-scale measurements and driven
with meteorological variables from observations rather than from an atmospheric model; surface heat and moisture fluxes
predicted by the snow model can then be out of equilibrium with changes in air temperature and humidity, and the response of
the snow model to perturbations may be different to those when it is coupled to an atmospheric model. In this poster,
feedbacks between the surface and the atmosphere over snow-covered forests are investigated by analyzing simulations with a
snow model driven with observations, driven offline with prescribed data from an atmospheric model and fully coupled to the
atmospheric model.
