AB: Student instrument programs represent an opportunity to develop capability among faculty and students in minority institutions for involvement in NASA missions. MUSPIN has initiated efforts to leverage expertise and partnerships to stimulate the development of these opportunities in minority institutions. While awaiting potential collaborations, some MUSPIN-funded minority institutions have developed small-scale flight programs such as MECSAT based at Medgar Evers College, City University of New York. Although programs such as these have some success in terms of workforce development, they can be enhanced by partnerships with universities engaged in larger-scale instrument missions. This presentation describes the MECSAT project and its potential for collaborations with existing student instrument programs as well as specific partnerships for instrument opportunities that MUSPIN has initiated.
