AB: One source of research partnerships at minority institutions are faculty and student researchers in the senior and community colleges at the City University of New York (CUNY). These research initiatives have been principally supported from NASA funding spearheaded by the Institute for Climate and Planets at NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. This initial investment has stimulated a broader involvement of faculty and students in geoscience research specifically in the areas of Earth Science, Astronomy and remote sensing. Additional NASA support from programs such as MUSPIN, MUCERPI, New York State Space Grant Consortium and NYCRI has provided faculty and students with opportunities to develop research programs at participating institutions which are, in many cases, principally teaching institutions. The result has been an increase in faculty and student publications and presentations, faculty actively seeking research collaborations with mainstream scientific community, preparation of students for and promoting their participation in summer programs at national research centers and universities, and the integration of research into academic programs. This presentation highlights examples of ongoing research efforts in the NASA-funded CUNY consortium to facilitate the identification of potential partnerships and collaborations.
