AB: A great web site is one that is relevant, usable, credible, and meets the needs of the intended audience. Thorough analysis of the audience can provide the foundation and guidelines to developing a successful site. Audience needs provide insight into content selection and who writes the content. The intended use of the content dictates the overall design and direction of the site. In the development of a NASA web site for middle school students, both students and teachers were involved in the iterative evaluation throughout the web site development process to ensure usability and usefulness. Accuracy and credibility is achieved via reviews from scientists and inclusion of citations. Accounting for audience needs and constraints at the design stage and the use of formative evaluation improves a web site's relevance, usefulness and longevity as a usable resource.
