TI: On the Analysis of Remaining Systematic Errors of Airborne Lidar Measurements

AB: Between the three components of an airborne lidar system, GPS, IMU, and Laser Scanner, there are many transformations and physical characteristics to be modeled. Besides the calibration performed in factory, bore-sight calibration is required after the installation. Even after all these calibrations, remaining systematic errors can still be identified from the inconsistency between adjacent strips. This study investigates the between flight line inconsistencies of several lidar blocks. Three different numerical schemes of strip adjustment are then applied to minimize the inconsistencies. It is found that while the relative agreement between strips can be improved with strip adjustment procedures, the discrepancy between lidar measurement and ground control points are not lessen.
