TI: Immediate Afterslip History of the 2003 Tokachi-Oki Earthquake Using Continuous GPS Networks

AB: In this study we investigate postseismic deformation following the 2003 Tokachi-Oki earthquake using 30-second GPS position estimates.We have obtained precise position estimates for 4 days after the M8.3 main shock, allowing us to clearly separate the coseismic and early postseismic record. Multiple filtering startegies originally developed to analyze 1-Hz GPS data were modified and tested in order to maximize precision of these lower-rate data. The estimated positions are fit to a rate-state friction function considering long-term creep rate due to tectonic loading. These positioning techniques contribute to our knowledge of fault response in the aftermath of great earthquakes.
