AB: The September 27, 2003, M 7.3 Altai (Chuiskoe) earthquake is one of the largest to strike central Asia in the past decade. However, because of its remote location in the Russian Altay mountains, direct observations have been limited and little is known on the rupture. We use Envisat data to quantify coseismic deformation field with InSAR techniques using both phase differences and amplitude offsets. This coseismic displacement field from InSAR and GPS measurements, combined with field geological observations and aftershock distribution, is used to constrain a source model for this event.
