AB: Oceanic sediments recovered during Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) Expedition 306 provided high-resolution paleomagnetic records, which helped in the construction of the shipboard composite sections and time scales. Sites U1312 (42°50'N, 23°05'W, 1-6 cm/ky) and U1313 (41°N, 32°57'W, 4-5 cm/ky) are located near the Azores Islands and possess lithologies dominated by nannofossil oozes. Site U1314 (56°22'N, 27°53'W, 7-11 cm/ky) is located on the southern Gardar Drift and is characterized primarily by nannofossil- and clay-rich sediments. Multiple coring was done using the advanced piston corer (APC) system. At Site U1312, magnetic polarity intervals were clearly identified down to the Gauss/Gilbert transition. Data are noisier down-core, but the bottom of the sequence was tentatively identified as Chron 5n. At Site U1313, a clear magnetic polarity record was obtained down to the Gauss. Data are noisier below this interval, but a magnetostratigraphy was defined down to Chron 3An.1n. At Site U1314, a detailed magnetostratigraphy, including several short geomagnetic intervals, was established down to the upper part of the Gauss. The high data quality suggests that post-cruise investigations will provide interesting new results. A comparison with preliminary u-channel data will be presented.
