AB: Operational flood forecasting has improved with advances in communication and information exchange among agencies responsible for hydro-meteorological data acquisition, flood forecasting, and flood warning dissemination. Coordination of these functions is essential in countries like Romania, which increasingly apply computational hydrological models for flood forecasting. This paper seeks to address inter- and intra-agency coordination challenges for effective flood forecasting in Romania with reference to specific data types that are becoming more routinely available for operational forecasting purposes, i.e., real time or near-real time gridded precipitation, remotely sensed land cover changes, and distributed soil hydrologic properties from soil survey data.
