AB: In this paper we present a computer model of the groundwater remediation system at the Plume G Site, Schoolcraft, Michigan. The model is used to determine the most cost effective means to deliver nutrients and other potential amendments (microbes, acidity) to form a reactive biocurtain capable of intercepting an entire plume. The most salient feature of the modeling system lies in that it provides real-time simulation and dynamic visualization, allowing one to "see into" the hidden aquifer and the complex delivery dynamics in response to remediation design options. This real-time, integrated modeling capability makes it possible to quickly explore a large number of alternative complex modeling scenarios. It allows us to focus on critical conceptual design issues, and to quickly and iteratively examine modeling approximations and hypotheses, and to easily identify dominant processes and factors controlling the remediation efficiency. At the meeting, we will demonstrate live the real-time remediation modeling system.
