This study develops an integrated PBL-and-Land parameterization, where temperatures in the PBL and on land can be solved
simultaneously and implicitly without using any prescribed land temperature. Skin temperature of land plays the key role in
coupling the PBL and the land. A new algorithm is derived in this study to determine skin temperature. Land is divided into
three portions: forests, bare ground and water bodies in order to take advantage of data set from satellites. In addition,
the effects of evaporation from skin reservoirs immediately following rain, transpiration from vegetated areas and
infiltration are accommodated in the model. Using the model, values of parameters in the land module can be easily calibrated
according to observed air temperature.
