AB: NASA's Ocean Biology Processing Group (OBPG) at Goddard Space Flight Center has responsibility for the processing and distribution of ocean color data sets from a number of spaceborne sensors, including, but not limited to, the Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS), the Sea-viewing Wide Field of View Sensor (SeaWiFS), and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS). The oceanographic community relies heavily on these data sets to support studies ranging from management of regional ecosystems to development of decadal climate records. The OBPG has integrated satellite data acquisition, sensor calibration, data processing, quality control, and product validation into a cohesive, multi-sensor system. This paper provides a description of the systematic approach employed to verify and maintain the quality and consistency of the ocean color products which are processed and distributed by the OBPG.
