AB: The Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) currently downlinks, archives, processes and distributes Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data for several international satellites. For foreign missions, ASF distributes to NASA-approved researchers and U.S. government agencies. ASF's extensive archive contains SAR data acquired by the ERS-1, ERS-2, JERS-1, and RADARSAT-1 SAR sensors. Worldwide data is available but data for the Arctic and Antarctic dominate the archive. SAR data of Alaska, the Arctic Ocean, North Pacific Ocean, Bering, Beaufort and Chukchi Seas are available for September 1991 to the present. SAR data of Antarctica and surrounding seas are available for December 1994 to the present. In the future, optical, infrared, and SAR data acquired by the sensors on the ALOS satellite will be available through the America ALOS Data Node at ASF. ASF produces nearly raw (Level 0) and image (Level 1) products as well as derived products (Level 2). The derived products include mosaics of Antarctica, the North American Boreal Forest and rain forest regions from around the world. RADARSAT Geophysical Processor System (RGPS) products such as ice motion and ice thickness are also available. The Modified Antarctic Mapping Mission (MAMM) glacier velocity products and mosaics will be available in the near future. The established distribution infrastructure at ASF makes it a logical place to access data for models and archive Level 2 products and models for efficient distribution bringing the goal of multidisciplinary global modeling one step closer.
