TI: Modelling of geophysical fields with wavelet frames

AB: Wavelet frames allow an alternative expansion of geophysical fields (geomagnetism, gravity).Thanks to their localization properties in space and frequency they allow a better approximation of the physical fields one tries to model with the help of of a quadratic cost-function taking into account the data-error and a priori information of smoothness. However the modelling with frames is quite different from the standard modelling with orthonormal bases since the set of basis functions is complete but correlated.
