AB: CHRONOS has established a set of best practices and procedures for services and data syndication. The goal of these practices is to allow for the efficient distribution of computational and data resources among the various federated partner groups working with CHRONOS and the community. This is achieved through a combination of XML in various forms and semantic web procedures. These are combined with a services-oriented architecture (SOA) built around open and community standards. We will present specific examples on the implementation of SOA to timescales and work with XMML done in collaboration with CSIRO Australia. We will also show examples of CHRONOS's efforts related to stratigraphic and taxonomic data done in collaboration with the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Science (IGNS) in New Zealand. The CHRONOS system is inherently inclusive of other geoinformatics efforts such as unique sample IDs and grid services, the latter in collaboration with GEON. We will demonstrate our work on the integration of the IGSN numbers of SESAR into CHRONOS's services and associated data systems, and our ability to connect dynamically to multiple partners through our system. The goal is to develop a rich set of services for the geosciences that are open and freely available to various community groups to address their specific geoinformatic needs and goals.
