Measurements show that the dust concentration varies continuously along polar ice cores. These changes seem to occur at times
of global climate change, and it is believed that they can be used to gauge past global climate change. Changes in dust size
distribution have also been observed in polar ice cores and are also believed to be associated with past climate change, for
example, changing wind strength. In this paper, we review some of the more significant changes in dust concentration and
size distribution observed along polar ice cores, with special emphasis on the GISP2 ice core, and discuss the possible
climate change scenarios that could engender these changes.
