This paper discusses the results of a high-resolution pollen analysis of Early Eocene laminated sediments from the Okanagan
Highlands, British Columbia. Shales of the Horsefly site consist of alternating dark- and light-coloured laminae couplets,
thought to represent winter and summer deposition (i.e., seasonal resolution) along with interleaved tephra layers
representing episodic volcanic eruptions. Biostratigraphic analysis suggests that these sediments are contemporaneous with
other Early Eocene Okanagan sites. The Horsefly shales were sampled for pollen at one millimeter intervals, reflecting annual
time scales, to provide a high-resolution evaluation of Early Eocene environments for the Okanagan Highlands. This study
complements numerous prior studies of fossil fish populations in these annual varves, which have yielded insight into the
ecology of the Horsefly Eocene lake and in combination with these studies provides the opportunity to resolve annual to
millennial scale patterns with the Early Eocene Okanagan Highlands environments.
