AB: The Thermosphere Ionosphere Nested Grid (TING) model was initialized using electron densities from the Global Assimilation of Ionospheric Measurements (GAIM) model. To do this, the TING model electron densities were replaced with the GAIM outputs at a specific time and the model was then run for a number of hours until it approached to the unperturbed TING model, which had been independently run for the same interval. In this study we look at the way that the GAIM-initiated TING model relaxes back to its unperturbed results during a geomagnetic storm, the time that it takes for this relaxation to occur, and the processes that cause this recovery.
