AB: The altitude distributions of the OH Meinel bands are measured by both the SABER instrument on TIMED and the OSIRIS instrument on Odin. However, neither of these measurements provides the altitude distribution of ground state OH that is formed principally by Lyman alpha photodissociation of water vapor in the upper mesosphere and which can be derived from observations of the OH 308 nm solar resonance emission. The observed diurnal variation of this emission shows a sunrise transient feature in the 85 km altitude region. A similar transient has been detected at ALOMAR using LIDAR. A one-dimensional photochemical model is used to simulate the observed emission. The required water vapor profiles for the model analysis are obtained from the ACE-FTS on the SCISAT. This paper will discuss the impact of the water vapor profile on the transient emission feature.
