Mesopause region temperature and horizontal wind were observed simultaneously and continuously for 80 to 90 hours in August
for three consecutive years, 2002, 2003, and 2004 with Colorado State University lidar in Fort Collins, CO (41N, 105W). These
data were processed for the investigation of quasi two-day waves. Quasi two-day wave activities in temperature, zonal and
meridional winds were indeed observed each year, with 2003 weaker that the other two years. Concurrent TIMED/SABER and
TIMED/TIDI observations in August were also processed. SABER temperatures showed quasi two-day wave activities with S=4 mode
dominance in 2002 and 2004 but not in 2003. Analysis of TIDI winds also showed quasi-two-day wave activity in August, with
S=3 mode stronger than S=4 mode. The results and implication of the coordinated Lidar and TIMED observations on August quasi
two-day waves will be discussed.
