AB: We report energy spectra of solar energetic particle events at Earth derived from ground-based and direct spacecraft measurements during the January 20, 2005 solar event. The X7.1 class flare of 20 January 2005 has produced a ground level enhancement (GLE) event which was observed with several neutron monitor observatories. We modeled a spherical distribution of this GLE by fitting neutron-monitor intensities to a first order anisotropy. The solar proton spectrum has been derived from this spherical distribution and the response of the neutron monitors to solar protons. Comparisons of the intensity time profile and the energy spectra derived from neutron monitors and from spacecraft measurements by instruments on ACE, SAMPEX, and GOES will be presented.
