TI: On the combination of CDS and SUMER data for Active Region Plasma Diagnostics

AB: Among the suite of instruments aboard the SoHO spacecraft are a pair of EUV/UV spectrometers. The Coronal Diagnostic Spectrometer contains two normal incidence spectrometers with wavelength ranges 307-379 A and 513-633 A while SUMER contains two normal incidence spectrometers with wavelength ranges 780-1610 (390-805 in 2nd order) and 600-1500 (330-750 in 2nd order). Together these instruments can collect spectral intensities from plasma at temperatures ranging from 10,000 K to nearly 10 MK. A combination of the data collected from these two instruments for active region targets above the limb can provide very detailed information about the electron temperature, plasma density and filling factor. We demonstrate a technique for combining the datasets and show the results from the first application of our technique. The characteristics of the plasma temperature with altitude and the variation of density with altitude are also presented. Finally, we will demonstrate the applicability of the result to standard models of gravitationally stratified atmospheres.
