TI: THEMIS Orbit Design and Its Science Potential

AB: The proposed macroscale substorm observations of NASA's THEMIS mission have led to a unique orbit design. Five probes, on very distinguished orbits will not only align in space but also during particular seasons and in time with ground based observations. One year from launch, we provide a comprehensive overview of the evolution of the predicted THEMIS orbits throughout the entire mission as well as an analysis of potential constellations with other missions such as CLUSTER, GEOTAIL and IMAGE. Based on current knowledge of the various substrom related phenomena we evaluate the quality of the conjunctions of the THEMIS probes.
