A candidate mechanism for energizing outer zone radiation
belt electrons is cyclotron-resonant interactions with
chorus waves. Quasi-linear calculation of diffusion
coefficients leads to significant pitch angle/energy cross
diffusion, which greatly complicates numerical solutions for
the evolving particle distribution. Recently, a technique
has been presented which removes the problematic cross terms
through a change of variables. Here, estimates of the error
introduced by simply ignoring the cross terms are made,
alternate versions of the proper treatment are discussed,
and progress towards generalization to 3D is presented.
