AB: Various processes have been proposed as the cause of acceleration and precipitation of radiation belt electrons in the inner magnetosphere. These include radial diffusion influenced by ULF pulsations, and interactions with several types of whistler-mode waves such as chorus and plasmaspheric hiss. Current theories model these effects as quasilinear diffusion of the particles in energy and/or pitch angle. Energetic electron observations by the SCATHA satellite are analyzed to provide evidence of these phenomena. Profiles of the electron phase space density at constant values of the first two adiabatic invariants are constructed for several storm intervals. These profiles are examined for peaks that could imply the local processes such as diffusion induced by chorus. The results are compared with SCATHA data during another storm that showed very flat profiles. The evolution of the phase space density is compared with the SCATHA measurements of wave amplitudes. We then discuss the implications of this data for electron transport models.
