The geosynchronous magnetic field has been measured routinely for over 30 years. It responds to major current systems in the
magnetosphere, including the magnetopause current, the ring current, field-aligned currents, and the tail current. As a
consequence, these measurements are valuable for probing many aspects of solar wind-magnetosphere coupling. In this
presentation we will present new observations of long-term (many day) shifts in the magnetic field topology at geosynchronous
orbit that reflect changes in the ring current and the ring current asymmetry. Another interesting variation in the
geosynchronous magnetic field is large-amplitude dayside fields that are not easily explained by the observed solar wind
conditions. We will present an overview of the solar wind conditions that are related to these geosynchronous magnetic field
variations.
