AB: Maldives consisted of 20 atolls and about 1200 islands located in Indian Ocean in South North direction have experienced December 26, 2004 event seriously. A series of tsunami simulations have been performed in Indian Ocean using the source mechanism of December 26, 2004 event and several other source mechanisms for the generation of future tsunamis at different locations along Sunda Arc, Nicobar Islands and Andaman sea with similar fault parameters. The propagation and coastal amplification of tsunamis in the region are computed for each source mechanism. The computed positive tsunami amplitudes near Maldivian Atolls for December 26, 2004 event are compared with the observations and measured tsunami heights at the Atolls. The distributions of maximum positive amplitudes of tsunami waves throughout the simulation covering 6 hours real time duration are also computed and all amplitudes for each source mechanism are normalized with the maximum amplitudes computed for December 26, 2004 event. Finally the normalized amplitudes for each event are compared and the levels of expected maximum tsunami amplitudes for future events are determined for the use future island development plans. The respective animations of each simulation will be prepared for visual material for administrative and educational purposes. It is also found that the effects of future tsunamis generated along Sunda Arc will be less effective in Maldivian Atolls comparing to the effects of December 26, 2004 event.
