As geologic mapping techniques move into three-dimensions and time dependence there is a need to visualize them. The ongoing
project to develop a three-dimensional geologic map of the Antarctic Dry Valleys has provided an opportunity to identify
useful visualization techniques as a model is being developed.
This team has applied commercial three-dimensional mapping software GOCAD within a GeoWall, a sub 10,000 dollar stereo
display system developed for earth science visualization. We have also draped the existing geologic maps onto topographic
surface derived from both LIDAR and photogrammetric sources. The resulting visualization has shown to be useful for
interpreting structures that can be seen with standard flat maps. During the talk these techniques will be demonstrated.
