The heat produced by radioactive decays in the Earth's mantle is the driving force for mantle convection, which is
responsible for terrestrial phenomena such as earthquakes and plate tectonics. As well as heat these radioactive decays
produce electron antineutrinos which can be observed with the Kamioka liquid scintillator antineutrino detector (KamLAND).
KamLAND can detect electron antineutrinos from the 238U and 232Th decay chains which Earth composition models
predict are responsible for approximately 84% of the 19TW of radiogenic heat. Therefore the observation of geoneutrinos will
allow these Earth composition models to be directly tested for the first time. I will present results from a search for
geoneutrinos with KamLAND.
