Changing climate has the ability to affect air quality by altering temperature and precipitation, as well as other
meteorological variables. Here, we investigate possible climate change scenarios to evaluate the impacts on air quality in
California. The regional air quality model (Community Multiscale Air Quality Model, CMAQ) requires a high-resolution model
domain (4 km) in order to accurately assess changes in air quality over the complex topography of California. We evaluate
existing regional and global climate change model simulations and methods to downscale these results to the air quality model
grid by both statistical and dynamical techniques. Additionally, we investigate the impacts of these climatic changes on
biogenic volatile organic compound (VOCs) and discuss their potential effect on air quality in the region.
