AB: A new method is described for reconstructing snowfall from observed snowdepth records and the NASA Seasonal-to-Interannual Prediction Project Catchment Land Surface Model (NSIPP CLSM). This model is applied to the Arctic, where estimates of snowfall from gauges are highly uncertain. Results show that using the CLSM, which has a three-layer snow model, snowfall can be accurately reconstructed which had to have fallen to produce the observed snowdepth, given the model physics.
