AB: The ocean general circulation model MPI-OM has been coupled to the atmospheric general circulation model ECHAM5, following the coding standard and the philosophy of the MESSy project (www.messy-interface.org). Physically the two GCM are coupled through the exchange of heat and momentum via the MESSy interface. Thanks to this approach, the coupled model provides a high flexibility and a fast interpolating/coupling procedure. The feedback can be activated/deactivated in both directions separately. The time step of the coupling (i.e the information exchange between atmosphere and ocean) can be selected by the user. First results of a long term simulation ( ~eq 100 years) will be presented, with a discussion on the performance and the technical aspect of the coupling.
