AB: A new high resolution 100 year data set from the mouth of the Mississippi river indicate a clear increase in dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) concentration and fluxes in the mid 20th century. A response in the flux lagged behind the DIC concentration shift by a couple of decades due to a two decade period of low flow. The increase in flux is driven by a recovery from acidification and an acceleration of water and carbonate fluxes from agricultural watersheds.
