AB: We have compared an ensemble of regional climate modelling simulations from the European framework project PRUDENCE with observed daily precipitation data from the European Climate Assessment dataset by characterising precipitation in terms of probability density functions of various kinds. We compare distributions for wet days and consecutive dry days across 8 regions in Europe against 9 models. We find the models that best describe the observations in given regions as well as across regions. We show how to estimate robustness of the results for wet days and climatological drought days using bootstrapping on stations, with replacement.
