AB: By working at extremely low (< 0.5K) temperatures, Transition Edge Sensors (TES) achieve unparalleled sensitivity as X-ray detectors. They may also be used extremely sensitive bolometers at infrared, submm or terahertz wavelengths. We have developed new TES technology which should reduce their noise even further and simplify their operation and fabrication, providing a robust instrument for solar physics, astronomy, and earth sciences.
