AB: The management of watersheds and water resources requires the use and integration of many indicators including in-stream physical, chemical, and biotic criteria. Recent emphasis has also been placed on the use of landscape indicators to assess stream structure and function. In this study, the influence of landscape indicators on macroinvertebrate communities is assessed at multiple spatial scales to determine the relative effects of landscape influences at differing spatial scales. Preliminary results suggest the distance from stream origin to sample site and variables associated with urban landcover are the most significant predictors of macroinvertebrate abundance and community composition when landscape indicators are assessed at the catchment scale. These results will be compared to results acquired from quantification of landscape indicators within a 100m riparian buffer and a 100m buffer of a 1000m reach upstream of macroinvertebrate sample sites to determine the relative influence of landscape indicators at these scales.
