The purpose of this research is to investigate 3D Vp, Vp/Vs structures beneath the Taipei basin area, Taiwan. We have
performed the nonlinear waveform inversion for the velocity structures beneath the Taipei basin. The wave propagation
modeling is carried out using a 3D precisely spectral element simulations, and the inversion is implemented by a
neighbourhood algorithm, minimizing the misfit between synthetic and observed seismograms. Good results are obtained with
both synthetic and observed data from our inversion. And we also obtain the high resolution of velocity structure especially
in the shallow layer and get better understanding the complex structure beneath the Taipei basin area. These performs are
highly parallel and easily be distributed across pc clusters. Finally, the results also shown how the computation time and
memory requirements scale with the dimension of the parameter space and size of the ensemble.
