Large-scale magnetic fields in 2003 October-November have been calculated using a potential field source surface model in
order to study the fast halo CMEs occurred in this period.
The calculation shows that these CMEs were associated spatially
with open field areas or occurred at the boundaries of two
open field regions with like magnetic polarity. We investigate
possible relationships between such configurations of magnetic
field and fast halo CMEs here.
SOHO is a project of international cooperation between ESA and NASA.
