Step By Step: GEODAS Gridded Databases

1. Install GEODAS Gridded Database CD

See Installation of GEODAS for MS Windows or Installation of GEODAS for UNIX Xwindows for instructions.

2. Start GEODAS

MS Windows:
Run the various GEODAS applications from the Windows Start menus. Start -> Programs -> GEODAS -> GEODAS Application

UNIX Xwindows:
Simply type geodas at the xterm prompt. Be sure the application geodas is in your PATH environment and that you have read permissions.

3. Click on the Icon for your GEODAS Gridded Database

After loading the appropriate GEODAS Gridded Database into your CD/DVD drive, click the appropriate application icon (e.g. Coastal Relief Model). This will launch your Netscape Browser, with the appropriate start page. In MS Windows, if you do not have the GEODAS CD/DVD loaded your browser will give you a message indicating the link was not found. In Xwindows, if the correct GEODAS Gridded Database CD/DVD is not loaded, you will be prompted to mount the appropriate CD.

4. Access images from the GEODAS Gridded Database web page

The web page files are located on the GEODAS CD. The web page shows the data coverage for the specific Gridded Database volume you are using. You can access shaded relief and also, for some CD/DVDs, data density images from this page by choosing either option and then clicking on a particular grid-block square within the image. (You may set your Browser to launch a separate image-viewing application for these images.) To create your own grids use the Grid Translator Application, either by clicking the Design-a-Grid button (on some CD/DVDs) or by launching it directly from the GEODAS Launch Pad).
