GEODAS installs to "All User" environment (one install for all users), except for Restricted User Installation. 2. GEODAS can now work on a Windows Network, and also the entire CD/DVD can be copied to your hard drive. (see Installing GEODAS on a Windows Network / Hard Drive below). 2. GEODAS Data Search and Retrieval application has been re-written, with improved plotting capabilities, better printing, etc. ******************************************* INSTALLATION OF GEODAS PROGRAMS FROM CD/DVD ******************************************* To install, insert the GEODAS SETUP CD/DVD, then: Start -> Run -> Browse -> x:\setup\windows\setup.exe (use CD/DVD drive letter) and hit OK. - or - In Windows Explorer : Double-Click: x:\setup\windows\setup.exe (use CD/DVD drive letter) NOTE: For GEODAS Gridded Database CD/DVD sets such as NGDC Coastal Relief Model or Great Lakes Bathymetry, each Volume must be installed separately. ********************************************* INSTALLATION OF GEODAS PROGRAMS FROM DOWNLOAD ********************************************* To Install the downloaded software: 1) Ftp (to a temp directory) self extracting zip-setup file: ftp.ngdc.noaa.gov/MGG/geodas/software/mswindows/gd_41nn.exe 2) Insert your GEODAS SETUP CD/DVD 2) Run the Install by double-clicking gd_41nn.exe in Explorer 3) Delete the file gd_41nn.exe NOTE: Users with only GEODAS version 4.0 CD/DVD sets (no version 4.1 sets) must also obtain the newest GEODAS Coatline files: ftp.ngdc.noaa.gov/MGG/geodas/coastlines/PcByteOrder/coast41.zip (see readme_c.txt in this zipped file) NOTE: For GEODAS Gridded Database CD/DVD sets with multiple volumes, such as NGDC Coastal Relief Model or Great Lakes Bathymetry, each Volume must be installed separately. NOTE: For Windows NT/2000/XP, if a user is a Restricted user (cannot install software), the Administrator must either install the GEODAS Software, or temporarily make the user a Standard user, install GEODAS, then the user can be returned to a Restricted user. *************************************************** INSTALLING GEODAS ON A WINDOWS NETWORK / HARD DRIVE *************************************************** GEODAS can be run on a Network by moving files to your Network space. This allows multiple users to access the data from their individual computers. GEODAS CD/DVDs can also be copied completely onto your hard drive and run from there. Files that can be run from your network/hard drive include Inventory Files, Coastlines Files, or the entire CD/DVD. For Hard Drive or Network access to the entire GEODAS CD/DVD: Copy the entire CD/DVD to a folder on your hard drive or network. (Be sure to keep the folder structure exactly the same as the CD/DVD, and keep separate CD/DVDs under separate parent folders). Or mount the GEODAS CD/DVD on the Network. Run GEODAS Setup, which will prompt you to locate the CD/DVD files. Any CD/DVD files from earlier installs can also be easily located later from within the GEODAS Applications. ******************************** RUNNING GEODAS Gridded Databases ******************************** Start -> Programs -> GEODAS -> ETOPO2 Global Gridded Elevations (for example) This will launch your browser. From here, click on the Help Button and look for Step-By-Step Instructions. Likewise for other GEODAS Gridded Database CD/DVD sets (Coastal Relief Model, Great Lakes Bathymetry, etc.) *************************************************** RUNNING NOS HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEYS, MARINE TRACKLINE GEOPHYSICS (INCLUDING MULTIBEAM), AND AEROMAGNETICS *************************************************** Start -> Programs -> GEODAS -> GEODAS Search ******************** MORE GEODAS PROGRAMS ******************** You can also run these programs from your GEODAS Group: *** Grid Translator: Create custom GEODAS Gridded Database grids into several formats *** Hydro-Plot: View GEODAS data, including: NOS Hydrographic Survey data from Searches or surveys on the CD/DVD set Marine Trackline Geophysics data from Searches GEODAS Gridded Database grids, custom grids, data density grids and grid radius ********************************* RUNNING GEODAS Custom Data CD/DVD ********************************* Your data is on the Custom Data CD/DVD (see help.htm on the CD/DVD). You may use programs Hydro-Plot and Coastline Extractor for your CD/DVD after running setup (see above). Start -> Programs -> GEODAS -> Hydro-Plot - and - Start -> Programs -> GEODAS -> Coastline Extractor *** Coastline Extractor: View and save the GEODAS coastline Files ****************** GEODAS Inventories ****************** Unless you have limited disk space, you will wish to install some or all of the GEODAS Inventories and Coastlines files to your hard drive. This will increase the speed of your GEODAS software, especially if you have a slow CD/DVD Reader. If you have an inadequate CD/DVD, and/or you wish to conserve disk space, you may choose not to install these files. (You will need to have the GEODAS SETUP CD/DVD mounted when you use GEODAS.)
