Downloading Data from GEODAS CD/DVDs

GEODAS stores data on CD/DVD or DVD-ROM in compacted binary files to save space. You can download data from CD/DVD to an ASCII file(s) or Binary file(s). Data are downloaded for all surveys found by a Search, so before you can download data from the CD/DVD, you must first Run a Search.

How to Download:

1. Use the mouse to click on Task -> Download Data in the Menu bar of the main GEODAS window.

2. Save Data As (choose one):
a) Single File of All Surveys (default) - creates one file named [Search KEY].??? (file extension depends on output format)
b) Multiple Survey Files, Complete Surveys - creates a separate file for each survey named [NGDC Number].??? (file extension depends on output format) under subdirectory named Search KEY. The complete survey will be downloaded.
c) Multiple Survey Files, data in Search Area - creates a separate file for each survey named [NGDC Number].??? (file extension depends on output format) under subdirectory named Search KEY. Only the data in the Search Area will be downloaded.

3. Select Downloading Options (to change from defaults):
a) Format (default = MGD77 for Trackline Geophysics or HYD93 for Hydrographic Surveys)
b) Horizontal Datum (default = North American Datum 1983)
c) Parameters (default = all records regarless of parameter)
d) Convert uncorrected depths to corrected meters using Carter's Tables (default = do not apply Carter's corrections).

4. Download or Cancel (choose one):
a) Use dialog to choose location and name of downloaded file, or in the case of multiple survey files, choose location.
b) Download will start downloading process, prompting you for the location of each CD/DVD volume as needed.
c) Cancel will cancel all options and exit the Download Task.
