Mark Johnson received the B.E. degree in 1987 and the Ph.D. degree in 1992 from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in the area of electrical engineering.

From 1987 to 1992, he was involved in the design of real-time digital signal processing algorithms and hardware for active noise control. In 1992, he was a Research Fellow with the Acoustics Research Centre of the University of Auckland. Since 1993, he has been a Research Engineer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, MA, specialising in the design and implementation of algorithms for underwater acoustic communications. His research interests are in adaptive control, active sound field control, and real-time signal processing applications in acoustics.
