Charles M. Loeffler was born in Houston, TX, in 1954. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, in 1976 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Rice University, Houston, TX, in 1979 and 1982, respectively.

From 1981 to 1988, he was on the electrical engineering faculty at Colorado State University, Ft. Collins. He is currently a Research Scientist/Engineer with the Applied Research Laboratories of the University of Texas at Austin. His current research interests include underwater acoustics, the design and implementation of underwater acoustic signal processing systems, design of large time-bandwidth product signals for specific applications, and short- and medium-range acoustic imaging systems. More generally, he is interested in the implementation of efficient beamformer systems, fast algorithms, short FIR filters, and time-varying systems.
