John D. Babb received the B.S. (1980) and M.S. (1982) degrees in ocean engineering from Purdue University, Lafayette, IN, and from the University of Rhode Island (URI), Kingston, respectively. The M.S. degree program at URI consisted of conceptual and detailed design, fabrication, and testing of an In Situ Vane system for strength measurement of deep sea sediments with Academic Advisor and Principal Investigator for the effort, Dr. A. J. Silva.Mr. Babb is currently employed at the Naval Underwater Systems Center, Newport, RI, as a mechanical engineer. In addition, he is pursuing the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering and applied mechanics from the University of Rhode Island. Current research includes investigation of large scale transient dynamic motion of flexible marine cables.
