Charles E. Persons received the B.A. degree from Hamitton College in 1955, the B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1956 and 1958, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of California, San Diego, in 1973.Since 1959, he has worked for the Naval Command, Control, and Ocean Surveillance Center's RDT&E Division (and its predecessors), San Diego, CA. His research interests include characterization of underwater acoustic channels and signals, and enhancement of broadband or narrowband signal detection. He has been responsible for the management of exploratory development projects in passive acoustic detection, classification, and localization of undersea surveillance targets.
