Brian Ferguson (M'93) received the B.Sc. degree (Honours) and the Dip.Ed. degree from the University of Sydney, Australia, in 1972 and 1973, respectively. The M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees were conferred by the University of New South Wales in 1976 and 1983 for theses in physical acoustics and ionospheric physics, respectively.
From 1974 to 1984, he was employed as a Physicist by the Australian Department of Science and Technology, where his research activities were in the fields of solar radio astronomy and ionospheric physics. He is currently employed as a Principal Research Scientist by the Defence Science and Technology Organisation, Pyrmont, New South Wales, Australia, where he leads a group involved in the research and development of sonar systems and land-based acoustic systems.
Dr. Ferguson is a senior member of the Australian Institution for Radio and Electronics Engineers and a member of the Australian Institute of Physics, the Australian Institution of Engineers, and the Acoustical Society of America.
