Ian Whitehouse (A'88) received the BE. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Western Australia in 1983.From 1984 to 1987 he was employed at Cossor Electronics. Harlow Essex England, where he was involved in digital signal processing applications on a range of projects from modems and vocoders to secondary IFF radars. In late 1987 he returned to Western Australia to take a position at Steedman Ltd., an environmental engineering consultancy principally involved in environmental monitoring projects. He took part in the development of a time of flight current meter used for oceanic current monitoring and was involved in a number of projects utilizing this technology. In early 1989 he took a position at the Centre for Water Research as a principal investigator charged with the development of an acoustic doppler current meter. He has been involved with this development for the last two years and has also been responsible for the development of a high sampling rate CTD, DO
2 , and pH probe. His current interests include DSP applications in Doppler sonar and communications.
