Douglas C. Echert received the M.S. degree in oceanography from the University of Washington, Seattle, and the M.B.A degree from Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA.He is Vice President and Manager of the Technology Division at Flow Research, Inc., Kent, WA, where for the past five years he has conducted and supervised contract research and development programs for both government and industry sponsors. In addition to oceanographic instrumentation, he currently is working on deep underwater cutting by abrasive-waterjet, remote measurement of sea-ice thickness, and underwater nuclear decontamination techniques. Prior to working at Flow, he was with Oceanographic Services, Inc,, of Santa Barbara, CA, for seven years, where his work focused on the characterization of the Arctic ocean and sea-ice environment.
