Robert H. Mellen (SM'85) received the B.A. degree from Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT, in 1941, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Connecticut, Sorrs, in 1955, both in physics.

He retired from the Underwater Systems Center, New London, CT, in 1980 and has since served as an occasional Consultant to various firms active in underwater acoustics.

Dr. Mellen is a Fellow of both the Acoustical Society of America and the American Physical Society.
