Pian Totarong (S'89) was born on January 28, 1954 in Pisanulok, Thailand. He received the B.S. degree (with honors) in physics from Mahidol University, Thailand, in 1976 and the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Ohio University in Athens, OH in 1983. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, PA.

Since 1976, he has held several research positions, including that of Research Officer of the Thailand Military Research & Development Center in the field of seismic signal classification and source localization by using sensor array from 1986 to 1989. During the year 1985, he was a visiting researcher at the Electronics Research Laboratory, Australian Defence Science & Technology Organisation, Australia. His primary research interest is in array signal processing. He is also interested in spectral estimation, speech processing, and implementation of DSP algorithms on hardware.
